Clear Seal Coat

 

COMPOSITION:

Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer is a single-component, solvent based clear sealer.

 

BASIC USE:

Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer is specifically designed to provide a clear top coat for interior or exterior areas such as walking decks, balconies, patios, stairways, driveways and pool areas. Suitable substrates for the Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer are existing Excel-Coat K/D & K/D II systems and two-tone textures, and concrete surfaces. Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer provides durable protection and allows easy maintenance of the surface.

 

LIMITATIONS:

  • Do not apply in constantly submerged conditions such as reflecting ponds or tank linings.
  • Do not apply over non-­structural lightweight concrete without prior written approval.

 

GRADE:

The Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer is a solvent-based lacquer to be used as a topcoat.  This top coat can be used with Excel-Coat K/D & K/D II decorative cementitious systems.

 

PACKAGING:

The Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer is available in 1and 5 gallon containers (U.S. gallon measures).

 

SHELF LIFE:

Twelve months from shipping date stored below 80° F.  Do not allow product to freeze.

 

COLORS:

Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer is a clear topcoat.

 

JOB CONDITIONS:

Before any work is started, the applicator shall thoroughly examine all surfaces for any deficiencies. Should any deficiencies exist, the Architect, Owner or General Contractor shall be notified in writing and any corrections necessary shall be made.

 

Cold or inclement weather will affect the cure time of all Excel-Coat products.  Do not install over wet substrate, in the rain or if the threat of rain exists within 24 hours.

 

INSTALLATION:

 

Preparation:

  1. Curing of concrete shall be by means of water cure or dissipating compounds. Curing compounds shall be approved by an authorized representative of Excellent Coatings International
  2. Concrete shall be cured a minimum of 28 days prior to installation of the Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer unless approved by an authorized representative of Excellent Coatings International
  3. Concrete finish shall be a power metal float followed by a light steel trowel and fine-medium hair broom finish, or equivalent.
  4. Concrete surfaces shall be free of excessive roughness, voids, protrusions or exposed aggregate.
  5. All tooled joints and control joints shall be caulked with a sealant approved by Excellent Coatings International  Moving structural cracks should be treated with an epoxy crack repair material.  To top coat existing systems, the system must be thoroughly cleaned (power washing with a detergent like TSP is acceptable) and primed.
  6. All decks shall be properly sloped to freely drain and eliminate the ponding of water. All expansion joints shall be treated as specified in the drawings and in strict accordance with Excellent Coatings International's written instructions. Excellent Coatings International shall be consulted for specific design requirements.

 

Application(s):

For Existing systems:

  1. Thoroughly clean surface by means of power washing prior to application of the top coat coat.  Allow surface to dry completely.
  2. Prime surface with Primer 120 or PC-155 at the rate of approximately 250 square feet per gallon.
  3. Allow primer to become tacky.   Apply two thin coats of Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer by roller or airless sprayer at the rate of 250 square feet per gallon per coat, for a net yield of 125 square feet per gallon total coverage.  Allow topcoat to dry approximately 8 hours.  Allow to cure 24 hours before heavy foot traffic is permitted and an additional 72 hours before heavy objects are placed on the surface.

 

For New Excel-Coat Systems: (i.e., K/D & K/D II Systems or Two-tone texture systems)

  1. A primer coat is not necessary prior to application of the Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer.
  2. Apply two thin coats of Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer by roller or airless sprayer at the rate of 250 square feet per gallon per coat for a net yield of 125 square feet per gallon total coverage.  Allow topcoat to dry approximately 8 hours.  Allow to cure 24 hours before heavy foot traffic is permitted and an additional 72 hours before heavy objects are placed on the surface.

 

STORAGE AND HANDLING:

Store Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer in a cool, dry area and protect from freezing. It will be necessary to stir Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer before using.  Partial containers can be resealed. Should a top skin develop on the remaining contents of a container, the physical properties and effectiveness of the contents will not be impaired. Clean mixing and application tools with a solvent cleaner like MEK. Dispose of empty containers properly according to current Local, State and Federal regulations.

 

Health and Hazard Information:

Use the product with adequate ventilation and personal protection. Users must read container label and Material

Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for specific health and safety precautions prior to use.

MAINTENANCE:

Cleaning can be accomplished by scrubbing with detergent soap and water. Heavy stains may require TSP solution and brushing with a stiff broom. Organic citrus cleaners may be used on the Excel-Coat systems

 

GUARANTEE/ WARRANTY:

Excellent Coatings International warrants Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer to be free of defects and manufactured to meet published physical properties for a period of one year following the date of shipment, provided that the product has been applied according to the manufacturer's instructions. Under this warranty, Excellent Coatings International will provide, at no charge, product in containers to replace any product proved to be defective in applications recommended by us as suitable for this product. All claims concerning the products' defects must be made within twelve months of shipment and within thirty days of discovery. Absence of such claims in writing during this period will constitute a waiver of all claims with respect to such product. This warranty is IN LIEU OF any and all other warranties, expressed or implied, including, but not limited to, any implied warranty of MERCHANTABILITY of fitness for a specific purpose.

 

TECHNICAL SERVICE:

Authorized local representatives are available to provide design assistance and on-site instruction for our products. Excellent Coatings International provides assistance in design and development of special applications and partial inspection. Full-time inspection and instruction are available on a fee basis upon arrangement. Technical data is available upon request.
