Water-Based Epoxy Primer

COMPOSITION:

Excel-Coat Primer 120 is a two-component water-based epoxy primer designed for concrete, existing decorative coatings and waterproofing systems. 

BASIC USE:

Excel-Coat Primer 120 is primarily used for new and existing surfaces prior to application of Excellent Coatings waterproofing and decorative coating systems.  Each kit is packaged in the proper ratio 1:1 and is ready to be mixed and used. 

LIMITATIONS:

  • Do not allow product to freeze
  • Do not apply to wet areas

PACKAGING:

Excel-Coat Primer 120 is available in 1 and 2-gallon kits.  

SHELF LIFE:

Twelve months from shipping date stored below 80°F.  Do not allow product to freeze 

JOB CONDITIONS:

Applicator shall thoroughly examine all surfaces for any deficiencies.  Should any deficiencies exist, the Architect, Owner or General Contractor shall be notified in writing and any corrections necessary shall be made.  The surface temperature of the substrate should be a minimum of 45°F. 

INSTALLATION OVER CONCRETE:

Preparation:

  1. Curing of concrete shall be by means of water cure or dissipating compounds. Curing compounds shall be approved by an authorized representative of Excellent Coatings International
  2. Concrete shall be cured a minimum of 28 days prior to installation of the Excel-Coat Primer 120 unless approved by an authorized representative of Excellent Coatings International
  3. Concrete finish shall be a power metal float followed by a light steel trowel and fine hair broom finish, or equivalent.
  4. Concrete surfaces shall be free of excessive roughness, voids, protrusions or exposed aggregate.

Application:

  1. Open both 1-gallon and 2-quart containers.  The 1-gallon container is not full, in order to pour the contents of the 2-quart container into the gallon container.
  2. Using a drill motor and a mixing attachment, mix the resin and the catalyst thoroughly.
  3. Using care, apply mixed primer by roller or brush creating a thin, even coat.  One gallon should cover approximately 250-300 square feet.
  4. Allow primer to become tacky at least 2-4 hours at 70°F (12°C) before application of the Excel-Crete material.  Excel-Crete should be applied while primer is still tacky.  For Epoxy or Urethane Coatings, allow primer to become tacky 4-6 hours before application.

INSTALLATION OVER EXISTING COATINGS:

  1. Existing coatings shall be tightly adhered with no cracking, peeling or chipping.  Surface shall be clean and dry.  It is recommended that existing coatings that are to be re-coated be approved by an authorized representative of Excellent Coatings International

  1. Open both 1-gallon and 2-quart containers.  The 1-gallon container is not full, in order to pour the contents of the 2-quart container into the gallon container.
  2. Using a drill motor and a mixing attachment, mix the resin and the catalyst thoroughly.

Note:       If primer dries before application of acrylic materials, re-prime surface. 

STORAGE AND HANDLING:

Store Excel-Coat products in a cool, dry area and protect from freezing.  Partial containers can be resealed if the two parts have not been mixed. Should a top skin develop on the remaining contents of a container, the physical properties and effectiveness of the contents will not be impaired. Clean mixing and application tools with water. Dispose of empty containers properly according to current Local, State and Federal regulations.

Use the product with adequate ventilation and personal protection. Users must read container label and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for specific health and safety precautions prior to use.

MAINTENANCE:

Cleaning can be accomplished by scrubbing with detergent soap and water. Heavy stains may require TSP solution and brushing with a stiff broom. 

GUARANTEE / WARRANTY:

Excellent Coatings International warrants Excel-Coat Primer 120 to be free of defects and manufactured to meet published physical properties for a period of one year following the date of shipment, provided that the product has been applied according to the manufacturer's instructions. Under this warranty, Excellent Coatings International will provide, at no charge, product in containers to replace any product proved to be defective in applications recommended by us as suitable for this product. All claims concerning the product's defects must be made within twelve months of shipment and within thirty days of discovery. Absence of such claims in writing during this period will constitute a waiver of all claims with respect to such product. This warranty is IN LIEU OF any and all other warranties, expressed or implied, including, but not limited to, any implied warranty of MERCHANTABILITY of fitness for a specific purpose. 

TECHNICAL SERVICE:

Authorized local representatives are available to provide design assistance and on-site instruction for our products. Excellent Coatings International provides assistance in design and development of special applications and partial inspection. Part-time and full-time inspection and instruction are available on a fee basis upon arrangement. Technical data is available upon request.
