COMPOSITION: Excel-Coat Patching
Compound is a single-component acrylic patching material to be
utilized in conjunction with the Excel-Coat products.
BASIC USE: Excel-Coat Patching
Compound is specifically designed to be used as a thin fill coat
over small imperfections, metal flashing edges and fiberglass seams
when used in conjunction with the Excel-Coat waterproofing
systems. Because the Excel-Coat Pedestrian Membrane System is a
thin system, small imperfections can telegraph through to the
surface. By using the Excel-Coat Patching Compound these
imperfections can be minimized.
LIMITATIONS: Do not apply in
constantly submerged conditions such as reflecting ponds or tank
linings.
GRADE: The Excel-Coat
Patching Compound is used in both the Excel-Coat Pedestrian Traffic
Membrane system and the Excel-Coat Fire System to patch and fill
plywood seams, deck to metal ridges and fiberglass seams.
PACKAGING: Excel-Coat Patching
Compound is sold separately in single quart and1-gallon containers.
SHELF LIFE: Twelve months from
shipping date, stored below 80°F. Do not allow product to freeze.
JOB
CONDITIONS: Before any
waterproofing work is started, the waterproofing applicator shall
thoroughly examine all surfaces for any deficiencies. Should any
deficiencies exist, the Architect, Owner or General Contractor shall
be notified in writing and any corrections necessary shall be made.
Cold or inclement
weather will effect the cure time of all Excel-Coat products. Do
not install over wet substrate, in the rain or if the threat of rain
exists within 24 hours.
INSTALLATION: Application (direct
to plywood):
- Patch all joints, holes, seams, cracks, metal flashing edges
and other imperfections with Excel-Coat Patching Compound prior to
application of the Excel-Coat Pedestrian Traffic Membrane System.
Application (to
membrane):
- When the membrane has cured, repair any imperfections,
irregularities or loose fiberglass with a razor and use Excel-Coat
Patching Compound over the imperfections and repairs, and again over
the seams, (both fiberglass and flashing) to minimize telegraphing
of such imperfections. Allow patching compound to cure for 30-60
minutes before texture coat is applied. Dry times may vary.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not build
patching compound greater than 1/8". Areas requiring sloping or fill greater than 1/8" shall use
Excel-Crete in lieu of Excel-Coat Patching Compound. (See
Excel-Crete Data Sheet for specific guidelines and instructions.) Note:
To achieve a smooth feather-edge patch, using a plastic patching (bondo)
spreader or card will give you the best results.
STORAGE AND HANDLING: Store Excel-Coat
products in a cool, dry area and protect from freezing. It may be
necessary to stir Excel-Coat Patching Compound before using.
Partial containers can be resealed. Should a top skin develop on the
remaining contents of a container, the physical properties and
effectiveness of the contents will not be impaired. Clean mixing and
application tools with water. Dispose of empty containers properly
according to current Local, State and Federal regulations.
HEALTH AND HAZARD INFORMATION: Use the product
with adequate ventilation and personal protection. Users must read
container label and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for specific
health and safety precautions prior to use.
