COMPOSITION:
Excel-Coat Glaze is a
single-component, acrylic polymer clear top coat.
BASIC USE:
Excel-Coat Glaze is
specifically designed to provide a clear top coat for interior or exterior
pedestrian traffic areas such as walking decks, balconies, patios, stairways
and pool areas. Suitable substrates for the Excel-Coat Glaze are existing
Excel-Coat waterproofing systems such as two-tone textures, Excel-Coat K/D
systems as well as other waterproofing membranes and concrete walking
surfaces. Excel-Coat Glaze provides durable protection that is virtually
impervious to ultraviolet light and allows easy maintenance of the surface.
LIMITATIONS:
- Not for areas
intended for vehicular traffic.
- Do not apply
in constantly submerged conditions such as reflecting ponds or tank linings.
- Do not apply
over non-structural lightweight concrete without prior written approval.
- Not
recommended as a top coat around pool areas. Refer to the Excel-Coat Acrylic
Lacquer Sealer for applications around pool and spa areas.
GRADE:
The Excel-Coat Glaze is a
clear acrylic resin to be used as a top coat. This top coat can be used with
all Excel-Coat systems.
PACKAGING:
The Excel-Coat Glaze is
available in 1 and 5 gallon containers (U.S. gallon measures).
SHELF LIFE:
Twelve months from shipping
date stored below 80°. Do not allow product to freeze.
COLORS:
Excel-Coat Glaze is a clear
non-yellowing top coat.
JOB
CONDITIONS:
Before any work is started,
the applicator shall thoroughly examine all surfaces for any deficiencies.
Should any deficiencies exist, the Architect, Owner or General Contractor
shall be notified in writing and any corrections necessary shall be made.
Cold
or inclement weather will affect the cure time of all Excel-Coat products. Do
not install over wet substrate, in the rain or, if the threat of rain exists
within 24 hours.
INSTALLATION:
Preparation:
- Curing of concrete shall be by means of water cure or dissipating
compounds. Curing compounds shall be approved by an authorized representative
of Excellent Coatings International
- Concrete shall be cured a minimum of 28 days prior to installation of the Excel-Coat Glaze unless approved by an authorized representative of Excellent Coatings International
- Concrete finish shall be a power metal float followed by a light steel trowel and fine hair broom finish, or equivalent.
- Concrete surfaces shall be free of excessive roughness, voids, protrusions or exposed aggregate.
- All tooled joints and control joints shall be caulked with a sealant approved by Excellent Coatings International Moving structural cracks shall be
treated with an epoxy crack repair material.
- To top coat existing systems, the system must be thoroughly cleaned (power washing with a detergent like TSP is acceptable) and primed.
- All decks shall be properly sloped to freely drain and eliminate the ponding of water. All expansion joints shall be treated as specified in the drawings and in strict accordance with Excellent Coatings International's written instructions. Excellent Coatings International shall be consulted for specific design requirements.
Application(s): For Existing Systems:
- Thoroughly clean surface by power washing prior to application of the top coat. Allow surface to dry completely.
- Prime surface with Primer 120 at the rate of approximately 250 square
feet per gallon.
- Allow primer to become tacky. Apply two thin coats of Excel-Coat
Glaze by roller or airless sprayer at the rate of 250 square ft. per gallon
per coat, for a net yield of 125 square ft. per gallon total coverage. Allow
to dry approximately 8 hours. Allow to cure 24 hours before heavy foot
traffic is permitted and an additional 72 hours before heavy objects are
placed on the surface.
For New Excel-Coat Systems: (i.e.: K/D
systems or two-tone texture systems) a
- A primer coat is not necessary prior to application of the Excel-Coat
Glaze.
- Apply two thin coats of Excel-Coat Glaze by roller or airless sprayer
at the rate of 250 square ft. per gallon per coat, for a net yield of 125
square ft. per gallon total coverage. Allow to dry approximately 8 hours.
Allow to cure 24 hours before heavy foot traffic is permitted and an
additional 72 hours before heavy objects are placed on the surface.
STORAGE AND
HANDLING:
Store Excel-Coat Glaze in a
cool, dry area and protect from freezing. It will be necessary to stir
Excel-Coat Glaze before using. Partial containers can be resealed. Should a
top skin develop on the remaining contents of a container, the physical
properties and effectiveness of the contents will not be impaired. Clean
mixing and application tools with water. Dispose of empty containers properly
according to current Local, State and Federal regulations.

Use the product with
adequate ventilation and personal protection. Users must read container label
and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for specific health and safety
precautions prior to use.
